Why Swim Converter exists
Swimming uses three common course formats: short course yards (SCY), short course meters (SCM) and long course meters (LCM). That creates a familiar problem for swimmers, coaches and parents: a time from one pool cannot be compared directly with a time from another course.
Swim Converter was built to make that comparison quick and transparent. Enter a time, choose the event and pool courses, and the calculator shows an estimated converted time without requiring an account or page reload.
A published-factor approach
Supported meter-to-yard conversions use the factors published in Appendix C of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Rules Book. The calculator matches long-course factors by event and gender, applies the NCAA short-course factors where appropriate and truncates results to one hundredth of a second without rounding.
For supported yard-to-meter conversions, Swim Converter uses the reciprocal of the matching published meter-to-yard factor. We label that direction honestly: it is a useful estimate, not a separate NCAA-published table. When the NCAA table does not publish a factor for a selected event, the tool says so instead of inventing one.
Simple by design
The tool is free, works instantly and does not require registration. Calculator inputs stay in the browser and are not stored as a conversion history. The page also keeps the applied factor visible so users can understand how a result was produced.
Converted times are estimates. Meet hosts, conferences and championship organizers determine which conversions they accept, so official event rules should always be checked before using a result for qualification or entry.
